The Abenaki Story Summary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsk-v3O6iQs
The Abenaki are a group of Native Americans. Their homeland is in the northeast part of the USA.
They are one of five Native American tribes that are part of the Wabanaki group.
The Abenaki story is an informational text that tells readers facts and details about the lives and culture of the Abenaki people.
They often used the bark from birch trees for many things such as for making poles, wigwams, canoes, and baskets.
The Abenkai were a community of hunters, fishers, and farmers.
The farmers grew crops such as corn, beans, and squash, and the hunters hunted deer.
Today, the Abenaki are part of American society, but they still find ways to keep their culture alive.
For example, they still tell traditional stories to their children, they still plant plants for healing and they still sing traditional songs.
They tell traditional tales like the stories of the beautiful golden haired woman who introduced corn farming to the Abenaki.
They still make pine needle tea to cure sickness.
The Abenaki people still sing the "Green Corn Song" when corn is being harvested.
The Abenaki people don't want to lose their old customs and traditions, and remembering the old stories and songs helps them to connect with the past and honor their elders and ancestors.
