Legend of the Lady Slipper Story Summary
This story is a legend. A legend is an old story that is passed down from ancestors to every new generation.
It is an important story for a tribe or nation and it might be a mix of truth and fiction.
This legend is about a girl from the Ojibwe tribe of Native Americans from the Great Lakes area.
She loved her older brother and he was as strong as a bear and as fast as a rabbit.
One day, a terrible disease struck her village and everyone started to get sick.
A neighboring village had herbs that could cure her family so she went on a journey after her brother fell ill.
She decided to wear deerskin moccasins that her mother made her.
After she reached the neighboring village, an old woman made her some venison and tea before giving her the medicine.
She decided to leave the lodge late at night to return to her village.
However, during the snowy journey, she lost her moccasin shoes.
Finally, she found her moccasins near a lady slipper flower.
Her family and friends started to get better after taking the medicine, and some people call that flower as the "moccasin flower".
